Magazine TOC Finished- Midterm

Image
I created the table of contents looking at sports magazines and how they are set up. The table of contents do not include every single article, but often the features and other bigger articles. Some magazines also have departments, which consist of articles that my occur in every magazine issue. I featured five of the main articles in my TOC with the page number, title, and description. Off to the top right, I listed the department section with page numbers and titles. I named the table of contents starting line, similar to how Sports Illustrated names their's the lineup. I chose the background photo I took at Holloway featuring two of 4A's top athletes, Benjamin Hartvigsen and Jonathan Reid, running off the start at Regionals.

Magazine Cover Finished- Midterm

Using the template I created, I added a background photo and edited the cover page. I picked this picture of Ben because it was when he crossed the finish line at regionals, taking first place. This was one of Ben's bigger accomplishments, and a shot that captured the moment. The photo shows Ben's uniform, representing Sarasota High School. The mid shot allows the viewer to see a good portion of Ben, while also including some of the audience members in the background. I changed the coloring of the magazine title and cover article title to stick out more from the background photo.

Magazine Article Finished- Midterm

I wrote my article on Benjamin Hartvigsen of Pineview School, who runs for the Sarasota High Cross Country team. Ben recently won the state title for 4A cross country, so I decided to write my article on him. I wrote down some questions that I came up with and added some other question I came across reading other sports interviews. I interviewed Ben after practice on the scheduled day and wrote down his answers to the questions. The pictures I placed in the article consist of shots I have taken throughout the season with the team, family, and of his accomplishments. Before hopping into the questions, I wrote a little about Ben's background and current status to inform the reader of who he is.

PLANNING: Magazine Cover Design Template

Image
The template shown is what I will use to create my magazine cover. After looking at several different sports magazines, I especially liked how Sports Illustrated displayed their covers. They either listed their featured articles along the top or off to the right. There is also usually three featured articles on the front with the title, page number, and description. Using this, I created my cover template. I put the name in bold at the top so it sticks out from what ever background picture I choose. The cover article title is shown at the bottom. Because I already have most of the typing done, all I have left is to find a fitting picture out of the ones taken at meets to use as a background.

RESEARCH: Magazine Project Planning-Sports Spectrum

Image
This magazine is an online issue. Sports Spectrum is sports based but also Christian. The cover pictures football players in a circle taking a kneel, it can be inferred they are praying. The title, Sports Spectrum, is pictured above in white over another picture of a stadium. In the corners are small captions detailing the articles inside.  The table of contents lists main articles on pages 6 through 83. 6 of the articles have cover photos that are featured on the table of contents. Main articles appear in the feature well and are all based around sports and faith in sports. A few adds appear in the beginnings of the article but do not interrupt in between any articles. The main articles are nearly all mid shots of a player or coach. The magazine is distributed online to viewers. Sports Spectrum is the #1 Christian sports magazine.

RESEARCH: Magazine Project Planning- Play Golf Sarasota

The cover layout pictures a golfer celebrating with a blurred out crowd cheering in the background. Another golfer is pictured at the top in between the words of the title. The magazine title is in white and bronze to draw attention to it, contrasting with the colors of the background. The kinds of articles featured include Golf Clubs, restaurants, and other smaller articles. The main features are all on different golf country clubs throughout the area. These articles appear on pages near the middle in the feature well. The ads feature golf gear, homes in country clubs, physical therapy places, and more. The ads are mostly before the feature well and then collectively together after the main articles. The table of contents has a dark, solid colored background with white writing. There are four articles picked out to the side in bold with pictures. The articles are all long shots or aerial shots of golf courses, some including features of their club such as food or homes.
