RESEARCH: Magazine Project Planning-ESPN

Image
The cover layout of this issue of ESPN pictures an up close shot of Tom Brady's face, but edited on his predicted look in 2022. The letters of ESPN are written in a metallic silver and Tom Brady's head over laps the middle letters. This portrays the effect of him popping off of the page. The simple layout draws viewers to the magazine because of the large portrait of the player. To either side are captions about the main article on Brady. The articles included all revolve around the quarter back of the game. These pages appear around the middle of the article from 47-74. Most ads features are television networks, car company's, healthy foods, and sports drinks. These ads appear a lot in the beginning and after some of the main features. The table of contents pictures a quarter back walking across a field. The articles picture mostly close up shots of the athletes. The distribution number of ESPN is 2.13 million. The magazine has won seven Sports Emmy awards and more.

RESEARCH: Magazine Project Planning-Sports Illustrated

The cover layout of Sports Illustrated often presents an athlete covering portions of the title of the magazine. This creates the affect that the person is popping off the page, seeming 3D. The title is printed either black or white, with some sub captions in more eye catching colors. This draws the readers attention to articles contained within the magazine, drawing them to look inside. The articles included feature a specific athlete, team, rankings, or other factor of a sport. The longer articles appear towards the middle of the magazine, where there are less ads. In this specific issue the features are from about 38-102 out of 112 total pages. Advertisements included appear between the pages of smaller articles and tidbits. Most of the advertisements are those that would interest the reader, most likely an athlete or sports driven person. The ads in this issue included Gatorade, fitbit, and Krave, a healthy snack for athletes. The cover page pictures Julio Jones standing in h

Project Selection-My Decision

I have decided to create a magazine for my project. I decided to create a magazine because I enjoy writing and photography. Creative writing is a good skill to have for creating a magazine because I am able to express the topic of my magazine in and interesting way while having it be professional. I also enjoy taking pictures. I could take photographs to incorporate into my magazine for the cover photo and photos featured in the article. I am thinking that I will do a magazine on running. I run cross country and track and am thoroughly involved with the sport. The magazine may include anything from a runner's diet to what a runner does to prepare. I would categorize my project into a sports category. I will work alone, this way I will be able to express what I am interested in and use my own designs.

Project Selection-Film

Film production possibly interests me because of the wide range of ideas that can be created. Making a film would let me express any idea I wanted through filming and acting. I could pick any genre of film and express that idea within the first few minutes that I create. Creating a film would be interesting because I would be able to do out of school productions with actors. The film would also be based on any idea I could produce. A helpful skill that would make the film project good for me would be writing, so I could write a good script. In class we watched two examples of films that previous students had made. They created a story line and conducted a short film to express the idea of the film. The project may be a challenge for me as far as making the film looking professional and editing.

Project Selection-Magazine

Print journalism interests me because of the aspects involved in the process of making a magazine. The idea of print journalism involves writing, which I enjoy. Print journalism lets you express your ideas through writing that you are able to publish and share. Also, you are able to use artistic abilities when graphically designing. Magazines incorporate creative writing and design. Within the magazine I could conduct interviews, publish photos, and more. Making a magazine would be a good fit for me because I can express what I am interested in and share it with others who share similar interests. Looking at the example projects helped to show me what a good magazine layout should look like. One magazine was based on teens volunteering in the city. This project had a good cover page and was designed professionally to look like a real magazine would. I also may have some challenges making the project as far as picking a single topic to base my magazine around. Having many interests might
